Creative Tools for Building Interns’ Supervision Competence

$30.00

1 CE Hour.

The APA Commission on Accreditation (CoA) requires accredited internship programs and those seeking accreditation to train and evaluate interns in a set of nine Profession Wide Competencies (PWCs). Programs must identify the specific training and experiential activities interns engage in to develop and demonstrate competence in each PWC in Table 2 of the self-study for accreditation, which can be a daunting and challenging task. The Supervision PWC is often misinterpreted as the intern’s participation in supervision rather than the intern’s provision of supervision. Interns must be trained and evaluated in skills designed to develop their ability to supervise other mental health professionals. This can be particularly challenging for sites that do not have junior trainees for interns to supervise. Given that many interns will go on to become supervisors in their careers, it is crucial interns are well prepared to provide high quality supervision. This training will support internship sites in developing creative ways to train their interns in the critical skills of Supervision.
