Clover's Profession-Wide Competencies Training Series
Training the Intangibles Tangibly: Professional Values and Attitudes and Communication and Interpersonal Skills
Wednesday October 29, 2025, 11:00 am – 12:00 pm Central Time
How do you train what you can’t quite measure—like professionalism, empathy, and clear communication? These “intangibles” are essential to success in psychology, yet they can be some of the hardest competencies to teach and evaluate. Join Dr. Jenna Symons, Senior Staff Consultant with Clover Educational Consulting Group, for a dynamic session designed to support internship sites in navigating the complexities of training in Professional Values, Attitudes, and Behaviors and Communication and Interpersonal Skills – 2 core Profession-Wide Competencies (PWCs) required of all accredited training programs.
After completing this training, you will be able to:
- Describe the specific behaviors associated with internship level competency in the areas of Professional Values, Attitudes, Behaviors and Communication and Interpersonal Skills
- Identify at least 2 strategies to promote intern’s ability to respond professionally in increasingly complex situations with a greater degree of independence.
- Identify at least 2 new activities for training interns in the areas of Professional Values, Attitudes, Behaviors and Communication and Interpersonal Skills
Whether you’re a training director, supervisor, or faculty member, you’ll leave this session with concrete tools to make these critical yet often abstract competencies more visible, teachable, and assessable.
We can’t wait to see you there!
Beyond Awareness: Cultivating Cultural Competence and Humility in Internship Training
Thursday, November 20th, 1:00-2:00 pm Central Time
Navigating the complexities of APA’s Profession-Wide Competency (PWC) in Individual and Cultural Diversity can be challenging, especially as work in the area of diversity continues to evolve. This webinar is designed to support internship programs in gaining a clear overview of the knowledge, skills, and attitudes interns are expected to demonstrate by the end of their training. The session will provide practical tools for fostering growth in Individual and Cultural Diversity, and a special emphasis will be placed on developing self-awareness, promoting cultural humility, and enhancing responsiveness to diverse client populations. Join us in November as Dr. Chrissie Love Sterk discusses steps you can take to create a more inclusive, culturally informed training environment that supports both intern development and organizational excellence.
At the end of this session, you will be able to:
- Describe the skills interns should have upon completion of the internship within the PWC area of Individual and Cultural Diversity.
- Identify at least one area of diversity in which the program could grow its training efforts.
- Implement new activities to strengthen interns’ competence in the area of Diversity.
We look forward to seeing you in November!
