Beyond Bubble Baths: Radical Self-Care for Psychology Training Directors

Training Directors in psychology occupy complex roles that blend leadership, mentorship, evaluation, and advocacy—often under significant institutional and emotional pressure. This presentation explores self-care through the lens of the unique stressors Training Directors face, including role strain, systemic obstacles, boundary diffusion, and chronic responsibility for others’ development and well-being. Emphasis will be placed on moving beyond generic self-care strategies toward intentional, values-driven boundary setting that supports both personal sustainability and ethical leadership. Participants will reflect on common barriers to boundary setting, examine the impact of overextension on professional effectiveness, and identify practical strategies for establishing and maintaining meaningful boundaries within training systems. The goal is to support Training Directors in cultivating sustainable practices that protect well-being while preserving engagement, purpose, and leadership integrity.
