About the Training:

Following the completion of Parts I and II of Clover’s Motivational Interviewing Training: Improving Provider-Patient Conversations about Vaccines, coaching meetings will be available for additional technical assistance. Research shows that while clinicians feel more knowledgeable and confident following a workshop, MI skill and implementation is sustained with coaching following a workshop (Schwalbe, Oh, & Zweben, 2013). This Motivational Interviewing meeting will take a group consultation format. Volunteers will be asked to share a challenging scenario involving the use of Motivational Interviewing with a patient. The rest of the group will actively brainstorm and problem solve to identify potential Motivational Interviewing skills to utilize in a collaborative role play. Role play will engage all members of the group as a collective Motivational Interviewing team.

Educational Objectives:

  • Apply skills to engage and focus MI conversation including agenda-setting and use of OARS
  • Apply skills to evoke and reinforce change talk including use of open-ended questions, reflections, and use of ruler
  • Identify discord and respond to discord in a MI-adherent manners
